Independence Cricket Cup I

                            2004

 Organized by: Eagle Cricket Club

Cricket in Americas has grown vastly over the last decades as new immigrants to the country have   revived it. It may sound unbelievable, but cricket was being played in America way back in 1777,  next to Lacrosse introduced by Native Americans, cricket is the oldest American Sport.

With millions of South Asian pouring into America in last decade, there is a growing market for cricket related activities. With about 1000 cricket teams around the country, there is a club for any abilities.     These clubs are central to the social structure of many individuals as it brings people of different backgrounds together.

This is a story of one such club, Eagle Cricket Club started by few friends in the late July 2002. At first, it was a weekend affair that would involve calling friends over to the ground for a pickup game, but slowly the number of people coming on the weekends grew and so did the need to create the club. Thus, Eagle Cricket Club took birth in early part of 2002.   With corporate sponsorship from Eagle Investments Systems, the club was able to secure a ground and procure equipments.  Today Eagle Cricket Club has about 30 members of different abilities and backgrounds who enjoy each other’s company as well as the glorified game of cricket.

Eagle Cricket Club prides itself on three principles 1) Respect, respect for the game, respect for the others, respect your opposition. 2) Commitment, commitment to excel in anything you do be it cricket or every day chores, “give it 110% all the time”.  3) Fun, the most important of them all is to have fun, cricket takes us away from everyday chores, we should enjoy the time together and have fun.  We are not being paid to be out there so go out there and have fun.
