Independence Cup I (July
3rd, 4th 2004)
As we celebrated country’s independence this year, it is important to reflect on the events of past year with sight for a better tomorrow.
With this in mind, Eagle Cricket Club held it’s first every Independence Cup featuring teams from Massachusetts. The event was organized by Eagle Cricket Club to take advantage of the long weekend to create a working relationship with other cricket clubs with in
MSCL. It was also an opportunity to meet new individuals and watch some very talented players perform. Eagle Cricket Club hopes that events like this help develop and give recognition to cricket as new and up coming sport in Massachusetts and beyond. We had four teams competing for the “Independence
Cup I”. Commonwealth Cricket Club, the founding fathers of cricket in Massachusetts, Boston Gymkhana Cricket Club, MIT Cricket Club and the hosts Eagle Cricket Club.
With the blessing of beautiful weather, the games where on. Saturday’s game featured a match featuring Commonwealth and MIT cricket. This was a very entertaining game and kept people cheering from the sideline on their toes. The second game was between Eagles and BGSC, the game didn’t start on time due to lack of players from Gymkhana. This game was one of the best games of the day it featured a nail-biting end. Both Commonwealth and BGSC entered the final by wining their respectful games and where ready to meet on Sunday.
The last day of tournament was filled with excitement as two teams with potent lineup met each other on Wrentham Development Center grounds to do battle. A tightly contested match turned into the favor of BGSC as they hoisted the cup.
It was great tournament and Eagle Cricket Club would love to make it another success next year. We would like to thank all of the teams for participating and hope to see you next year.
Special thanks to all that helped out from Eagle Cricket Club, Local Cable broadcast team led by
David Plantamura and also to umpire Tony Best for doing a wonderful job of officiating.
